I need to cancel…
Sometimes, you need to take a step back and laugh.
Those who know me are familiar with my meticulousness. I live by my to-do list, my calendar, my smart mailbox of unread messages (beats checking my 40+ folders individually).
So when I sat down to review this week’s schedule, I noticed something peculiar.
I had a doctor’s appointment.
Going to have to cancel that… I thought, and added an item to my to-do list.
When reviewing my to-dos this morning, I scheduled that one for the afternoon, since calling a doctor’s office at midnight usually results in an office-closed voicemail.
After completing a rather large task this evening, I decide that it’s a good time to call to cancel.
‘Thank you for calling –––, this is Anne, how may I help you?’
‘I have an appointment with Dr. B–– this Wednesday, and I need to cancel.’ (Hi! I hope that you’re reading this!)
After giving my full name and date of birth, Anne hesitates.
‘Uh… It’s just that, I’m going to have a hard time rescheduling that, it’s–’
‘You don’t need to reschedule. I live in Tanzania now. Even if I left now, I’d probably be late for my appointment.’
She starts laughing. I start laughing. How many times have you heard that reason for cancelling in your life?
‘Well then! I wish you luck in your new location!’
‘Thanks! And can you tell Dr. B–– that I say hi?’
‘I sure will! I’ll send her a special message.’
‘Thank you!’
I kind of love using that line when I’m calling US customer service over Skype. ‘Sorry if I’m in-and-out, I’m in Tanzania.’ ‘I have to cancel. I live in Tanzania now.’
Life is what you make of it. And apparently I make ridiculousness.
I couldn’t be more pleased.
